ABSTRACT

Na+/H+ antiporter (NHX) gene subfamily plays an important role in plant response to salt stress. In this study, we identified the NHX gene family members of Chinese cabbage and analyzed the expression patterns of BrNHXs gene in response to abiotic stresses such as high temperature, low temperature, drought and salt stress. The results showed that there were 9 members of the NHX gene family in Chinese cabbage, which were distributed on 6 chromosomes respectively. The number of amino acids was 513-1 154 aa, the relative molecular weight was 56 804.22-127 856.66 kDa, the isoelectric point was 5.35-7.68. Members of BrNHX gene family mainly existed in vacuoles, the gene structure is complete, and the number of exons is 11-22. The secondary structures of the proteins encoded by the NHX gene family in Chinese cabbage had alpha helix, beta turn and random coil, and the alpha helix occurred more frequently. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that the gene family members had different responses to high temperature, low temperature, drought and salt stress, and their expression levels differed significantly in different time periods. BrNHX02 and BrNHX09 had the most significant responses to these four stresses, and their expression levels were significantly up-regulated at 72 h after treatments, which could be used as candidate genes to further verify their functions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To retrospectively analyze the clinical and pathological data of 48 patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the head and neck and screen out related factors that affect the patient's prognosis. Methods The overall survival rate of patients is used as the main indicator for observing prognosis. We selected 11 clinical and pathological factors as observation indicators that may have an impact on the survival and prognosis of patients. The relation between observation factors and the overall survival rate of patients was analyzed by Cox multivariate regression. Results The median follow-up time was 33.5(1-98) months. The 1-, 2- and 5-years overall survival rates were 95%, 91% and 87%. Local recurrence occurred in 14(29.2%) patients. Distant metastasis occurred in 22(45.8%) patients. Cox regression analysis showed that recurrence, distant metastasis and primary site were correlated with the overall survival rate of patients with head and neck adenoid cystic carcinoma (P < 0.05). Conclusion Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a relatively rare tumor of the head and neck with a low degree of malignancy. However, recurrence, distant metastasis and primary site have relatively great impact on the prognosis of patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To determine the safe distance range of clear corneal incision (CCI) from the corneal limbus and how different CCI sites affect surgery efficacy and anterior segment parameters in patients undergoing phacoemulsification.@*METHODS@#This retrospective case-control study was conducted in 44 patients (44 eyes) undergoing phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. The patients were divided into two groups with CCI distances ranging from 1 mm to 1.5 mm (group A, = 22) and from 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm (group B, = 22). The visual acuity, surgically induced astigmatism (SIA), corneal aberration, and anterior segment parameters were analyzed.@*RESULTS@#Compared with the preoperative data, all the patients showed significant improvements in the postoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), anterior chamber depth (ACD), and anterior chamber angle (ACA) after the surgery ( < 0.05). No significant differences were found between the two groups in postoperative UCVA, BCVA, SIA, total corneal aberration RMS, lower- and higher-order aberration RMS, spherical aberration (Z), horizontal three leaf clover (Z), vertical three leaf clover(Z), horizontal coma(Z), vertical coma(Z), ACD, ACA, anterior chamber volume, or central corneal thickness (>0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Phacoemulsification is an effective therapy for cataract with a CCI distance range either of 1-1.5 mm or 0.5-1.0 mm. These two CCI distance ranges produce no significant differences in the visual quality following phacoemulsification, indicating that a CCI distance range of 0.5-1.5 mm can be safe for phacoemulsification.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Silver-matrix composite is usually used as a kind of electrical conductive matedal, which has excellent properties in electrical and heat conducting. MoS2, which used as a common solid lubricating material, has unique anti-frictional and lubricating properties in the process of wearing. Ag-MoS2 composites using in the area of electrical sliding wear were fabricated by adding MoS2 to the silver-matrix. OBJECTIVE: Ag-MoS2 composites with different content of MoS2 were produced to gain the mixture ratio for best properties by the experiments of mechanical and wear test. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The controlled experiment was performed at the Department of Matedal Science and Engineering, Hefei University of Technology from April to May 2008. MATERIALS: Silver powder (Bengbu Gold and Silver Article Factory, China) and MoS2 powder (Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd., China) were used in this study. METHODS: Ag-MoS2 composites for five different contents were fabricated by powder metallurgy method, which included the processes of powder mixture, drying, initial pressure, sintering, and second pressure. MoS2 contents were the MoS2 composite of 12.0%, 13.5%, 15.0%, 16.5%, 18.0% silver- MoS2. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Flexural strength was measured by versatility mechanical testing machine. The microstructures of the composites after sintering were observed by an optical microscope. The electrical sliding friction and wear properties were tested by the electrical wear test machine. The worn surfaces of the samples were observed by a scanning electron microscope. RESULTS: With the increase in MoS2, the flexural strength decreased, the resistivity increased, and the wear loss decreased first, and then increased, which comes the lowest point when the MoS2 content was 15%. CONCLUSION: When the content of MoS2 is 15%, the average properties was the best.
